Keyword Search Volume – Key Factors for Selecting Potential Products.

Eazyppc welcomes you to the lesson ‘Keyword Search Volume – Key Factors for Selecting Potential Products.’ – you should read and thoroughly understand the previous lessons, as Eazyppc uses terms and concepts that were already explained in earlier lessons.

Prerequisite lessons you should be familiar with before reading this one:

When starting to research a product niche, Search Volume is one of the most important first factors for evaluating total demand in a specific product niche. Thoroughly researching and analyzing Search Volume, combined with identifying your core keyword set, will help you clearly understand market trends and make more effective business decisions.

1/ Review Your Core Keyword Set and Total Search Volume

First, you need to find/build a core keyword set that represents the product — these are the key keywords that customers will use to search for the product you are researching.

-> MOST IMPORTANT: THE PERSON FILTERING THE CORE KEYWORD SET MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO QUICKLY AND THOROUGHLY UNDERSTAND THE PRODUCT NICHE.

Based on the total Search Volume of this keyword set, you can already get a picture of the total market demand for a product niche. Below is Eazyppc’s assessment for the total Search Volume of the core keyword set (in the US market):

  • Above 50,000: Large market -> strong buying demand
  • 30,000 – 50,000: Decent market, still has buying demand
  • 20,000 – 30,000: Small market -> low buying demand
  • Below 20,000: Market is too small, very low buying demand, needs careful consideration before committing

❗ If the SV of the core keyword set is too low, that product will be very difficult to grow, even if all other factors are handled well. In small markets, keywords are often dominated/fragmented by Top Seller competitors, making it very hard for new Sellers to capture sales from them.

On the other hand, if the Search Volume is large enough, you can:

  • Search demand and buying power tend to be strong
  • Running ads with low bids can still generate orders
  • Drive strong organic traffic once you achieve good organic ranking positions

2/ Choosing Products Based on Seasonality:

The next step is to check the Search Volume chart over time to determine the seasonality of the product:

  • Evergreen (sells year-round, stable demand)
  • Trend-based (seasonal)

If the product is Evergreen, choosing the right shipping timeline is relatively flexible, because Search Volume remains stable year-round. Therefore, if unexpected issues arise during the sourcing -> shipping to the US process and inventory arrives later than expected, the risk is much lower compared to trend-based products.

If the product is trend-based, in order to capitalize on the peak trend, you need to ensure:

  • You must identify whether your core keyword set applies during the peak season or off-season (to avoid looking at Search Volume during peak season and then importing inventory when the trend has already ended). Search Volume spikes sharply when the peak period begins, but can drop quickly afterward.
  • Inventory should arrive at the warehouse 1–2 months before the trend begins, giving enough time to run ads and for the product to: Achieve good organic ranking positions for important keywords (organic rank) -> Be ready to capture the large incoming traffic surge

If you ship inventory into Amazon’s warehouse when the trend is already at its peak, you will face several challenges:

  1. High competition as all competitors push to maximize sales -> Significantly higher advertising bids
  2. Very difficult to get the product into top ad and organic positions while still maintaining the desired profit margin
  3. If inventory doesn’t sell out during the trend, you may have to wait until the following year to sell again, or heavily discount to clear stock and avoid excessive storage fees.

Search Volume is a measure of demand for an entire product niche on Amazon. To accurately analyze Search Volume, you should identify the overall core keyword set, calculate the total Search Volume for a product, understand the SV chart over time to determine whether the product follows a trend, and if so, identify what kind of trend and its characteristics.
