How to Set Up Automated Reselling of Returned Used Items (Automated Unfulfillable Settings – FBA Grade and Sell) & Furbishing

Before diving into each section, here is a comparison table to help you distinguish between the two types:

1/ Reselling Returned Used Items – FBA Grade and Sell:

In this section, you need to understand that “returned used items” here refers to items that can no longer be refurbished (furbished), so Amazon will grade them as “used,” resell them at a lower price, and notify consumers that the items are used.

1.a/ Click on Settings in the top-right corner of the Seller Central window

1.b/ Scroll down to the Automated unfulfillable settings section

At this point, before configuration, it will show “Disabled”

Click on “Edit”

1.c/ Configuration

Note: here you need to distinguish between items that can be resold (select Grade and Resell) or items that cannot be resold (for example, skincare cream products cannot have returned items resold -> select Liquidations)

Then click:

Set the resale price (after Amazon evaluates the condition of the returned product)

Set the price at: 90% – 85% – 80% – 75% is fine

2/ Furbishing:

In addition, check this box as well. Furbishing means Amazon receives the returned item, and if the item is still completely “new,” it will be refurbished and returned to the FBA warehouse to be resold as if it was never returned.

Furbishing = a service of lightly refurbishing returned items that are still new to resell them as new.

 

2.a) Purpose of Furbishing

FBA Furbishing allows customer-returned products that are still new and can be quickly processed to return to a sellable-as-new condition.
Light-touch refurbishment activities include:

  • Polishing and cleaning the product.

  • Repackaging: poly-bagging, bubble-wrapping, boxing.

Examples:

  • A customer returns a product because the box is damaged but the item inside is still new.

  • A customer tried on clothing but it is still new — it just needs to be refolded, steamed, or rebagged.

The goal is not to liquidate or discard the item but to resell it as new.

2.b) Conditions and Limitations

  • Not all products are eligible. Each returned unit is individually assessed to determine whether it can be furbished.

  • Not all FBA fulfillment centers offer all furbishing services; some services may be available at one center but not another.

3/ What Happens When Both Automated Reselling and Furbishing Are Enabled at the Same Time:

  1. The returned item is received into the FBA warehouse.

  2. Amazon evaluates the condition of the product:

    • If the product is still new and only needs light refurbishment (repackaging, cleaning, polishing) → Furbishing: the product will be refurbished and relisted in the FBA Listing.

    • If the product cannot be sold as new (e.g., scratched, missing parts, severely damaged box) → Grade and Resell: the product is graded and categorized as Used (Like New / Very Good / Good / Acceptable), then resold as used, automatically creating a Child ASIN.

  3. If the product is too damaged or does not qualify for resale → Amazon will move it to the Unfulfillable inventory, and you can choose liquidation, removal, or disposal.
