(1.2) Keyword Search Volume

Keyword Search Volume

Welcome to Eazyppc‘s guide on ‘Keyword Search Volume’! Before we begin, make sure you have a solid understanding of ‘What Are Keywords?’. If not, head back and read it so you don’t miss out on vital information.

In this guide, we’ll analyze the keyword Search Volume metric—a crucial factor in evaluating product potential. Additionally, Eazyppc will share common hurdles new sellers face when assessing Search Volume, using real-world examples.

1. What Is Search Volume?

Search Volume (SV) is a critical metric that Eazyppc always examines first when analyzing any product. According to Helium10, Search Volume is defined as follows:

‘Estimated number of customer searches on Amazon for a specific product using the same keyword(s), usually per month’

Meaning: The estimated number of times customers search for a specific product on Amazon using the same keyword (or keywords), typically calculated on a monthly basis.

  • Customers don’t just use a single keyword to search for a product; they may use many different terms. Therefore, the actual demand for a product = the total Search Volume of all related keywords.

Let’s look at a practical example to illustrate this clearly:

When searching for the keyword ‘car battery charger portable’ on Helium10, we get the following results:

This means that over the last 30 days, there were a total of 2,354 searches for the keyword ‘car battery charger portable’ on Amazon.com. And here are the search results on Amazon:

2. The Core Keyword Set

However, shoppers don’t use just one single keyword to find a product. For instance, for this same car battery charger, customers might also search using terms like:

  • ‘jump starter’ (SV 372,583)
  • ‘car battery jump starter’ (SV 37,280)

Here are the Amazon search results for these two keywords:

As such, the search demand for this product isn’t limited to a single keyword, but rather the combined Search Volume of all related keywords, including:

‘car battery jump starter’ + ‘jump starter’ + ‘car battery charger portable’ + …

All of these related keywords are referred to as the core keyword set. (Eazyppc will show you how to identify this core keyword set in upcoming guides).

For most products, if a keyword has a high Search Volume (meaning high search demand), then:

  • Traffic to the product listing will be higher.
  • This leads to better sales and revenue.
